Medtecs Introduces Various Products to Protect Against the H1N1 Flu Virus

 A.UNDERSTANDING THE FLU 

(a)What is flu

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by RNA viruses of the familyOrthomyxoviridae (the influenza viruses), that affects birds and mammals (including human).

The flu is similar to the common cold but its symptoms are usually much more severe.

 (b) What is the H1N1 Flu  

The current 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic, or “swine flu” as it was called early on, is caused by a novel strain of influenza A virus subtype H1N1. This new type of virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009, and has spread from person-to-person worldwide, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.

 

On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the H1N1 outbreak to be pandemic;

 

On August 28, 2009, the WHO issued a statement urging people in the northern hemisphere to be prepared for the second wave of the H1N1 pandemic as autumn approaches.

(c) How Does the H1N1 Flu Virus Spread

The main route of transmission of the new H1N1virus seems to be similar to seasonal flu: from person to person through droplets that are expelled by speaking, sneezing or coughing. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something – such as a surface or object – with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose
