Medtecs Group is donating much needed anti-epidemic supplies to fight COVID-19 in Cambodia

Medtecs Group had pledged to donate its anti-epidemic personal protective equipment (PPE) to assist the Government of Cambodia in the fight to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Items on Medtecs’s donation list included face masks, safety goggles, isolation gowns, coveralls, bouffant caps and shoe covers. A handover ceremony took place on March 10, 2020 in the Grand Hall of the Ministry of Health. Minister H.E. Mam Bun Heng, who presided over the ceremony, formally acknowledged receipt of Medtecs’s donation, and presented a certificate of appreciation to Medtecs Group Chairman, Mr Clement Yang.

Medtecs Group was listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange in 1999. The Group started operation in Cambodia in 1997 by setting up manufacturing plants in the Kampong Cham Province, hometown to Prime Minister Hun Sen. In 2015, a new manufacturing facility dedicated to the production of coveralls, isolation gowns and other medical consumables commenced operation in Manhattan Special Economic Zone in Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province. The Group’s PPE and medical products mainly serve European, American, Japan and ASEAN market needs and are highly regarded for their quality.

Chairman Yang said that Medtecs Group has nearly 4,000 employees in Cambodia, and many of the employees are related to or are friends with one another. It is not uncommon to find 2 or 3 generations within a family all working for the Group. “The entire factory feels like a big family office,” Chairman Yang added. Medtecs Group has operated in Cambodia for more than 20 years. Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, Cambodia’s economy has boomed, bringing remarkable  improvement to its people’s economic well-being and overall quality of life. Medtecs has also benefitted from the business-friendly policies of the Government and has continued to thrive.

As COVID-19 rages on worldwide, disrupting global supply chains, the PPE and related medical products manufactured by Medtecs in its Cambodian factories are precisely what front-line healthcare workers need the most for protection against transmission and cross-contamination. In the past month or so, these Medtecs products have made their way to China, through donation by the International Committee of The Red Cross and other patriotic Chinese corporations, which provided much-needed relief to medical workers there.

Responding to the call of action by the Prime Minister, Medtecs Group acted promptly to give back to the land and community that has made its success possible by putting together for donation a range of PPE – coveralls, isolation gowns, bouffant caps and shoe covers manufactured locally by its Cambodian staff, plus globally sourced face masks and safety goggles – which, when used together, create head-to-toe protection for those at the forefront of the fight against the viral epidemic.

“As the Chinese saying goes, good tools are prerequisite to any success,” said Chairman Yang, who hoped that the Group’s donation of supplies could better equip doctors, nurses and other medical front-liners to care for COVID-19 patients and safeguard the health of the people of Cambodia.
